Between 70-80% of this red gold exports belong to these countries. UAE and Saudi Arabia have this product’s highest sale rates as souvenirs, due to their tourism potential.

How many times a year do we export?

But is raining actually good for the plant?
Heavy rainfall is a blessing for a group of farmers, and a curse for another. Saffron farmers are in the third group, who suffer from a paradox with heavy rainfall!
In the past couple of years, we witnessed a lot of rain in most parts of Iran, which has two significant effects on the production. It may provide a platform to have a prosperous year, which looks great at first, but it also increases the product and low exports, which has a notable effect on reducing the price.
Sometimes heavy rains can cause the bulbs to rot in the ground and product harvest drop. Although it may seem negative, it may actually be useful contrary to popular belief, because low supply and high demand compensate for the decrease in the price.
Lastly, “stopping the export of this precious spice due to the outbreak of COVID-19 requires many years to recompense farmers.” said a saffron market activist to Saffron Express .
